Bobby
Film Director
Bobby is one of those annoying people who is good at everything. She's a killer film director for her day job; but she's a lot more than that. Her talents span from the emergency room as a Nurse Practitionor, to the symphony hall as a first chair violist, to big Hollywood film sets as a director, to the desert as a motorcycle riding hooligan.
She's an intense musician. She plays piano, guitar, viola, harp, organ, and probably the Zamboni.
She wrenches on an '86 Volkswagen bus which you can spot most days headed to Malibu, San Onofre, or C street with two longboards on top.
Her narrative and commercial work is renowned for its nuanced performances, inventive camerawork, and unique transitions. She's created narrative and interactive content for some of the world’s top brands.
She's the OG Nxbody and the founding CEO of Nxwhere as well as our official spirit goddess.
I’d say my favorite medium is film, without a doubt. There’s something about the way you can merge visuals, sound, and storytelling into one experience that completely captivates me. Plus, film lets me pull in so many aspects of life I love—like surfing, adventure, and personal stories. It’s like bringing all the pieces of myself into one art form.
The Ghost of Los Angeles is the project closest to my heart. It was inspired by some of the toughest moments in my life, battling cancer while raising two kids. It’s not just a film, but a reflection of resilience, loneliness, and connection. I co-directed it with my partner Brig, and it’s a piece that feels like an extension of both our lives.
I live in California, which completely shapes my work. The ocean is my biggest muse—I’m constantly drawn to its energy, which you’ll see in everything from the themes of my films to the way I approach life. Surfing, nature, and a deep sense of freedom are always underlying currents in what I create.
I don’t really have a rigid process—each project has its own flow. Typically, I start with something personal, whether it’s a memory, an emotion, or an experience. From there, I let things build organically. A lot of my ideas come while I’m driving my VW van on road trips or in the middle of fixing up cars. It’s like once I’m in motion, so is my creativity. Then it’s all about diving in and saying yes to whatever comes next.
I pull inspiration from everywhere—my kids, Jane and Ace, the ocean, the people I meet. But honestly, it’s the energy around me that drives a lot of what I do. I’ve always been curious and love seeing how things work, whether it’s a car engine or human emotions. That curiosity keeps me pushing boundaries and finding new stories to tell.
